Beskrivning av examensarbetet
Optimizing software testing process has received much attention over the last few decades. Test optimization is typically seen as a multi-criteria decision-making problem, where a set of criteria need to be detected and satisfied during the optimization process. Some of the critical criteria is already detected by researchers such as dependency between test cases, execution time and requirement coverage. Measuring the effect of the mentioned criteria on each test case is a challenging task, especially in a manual testing procedure, where the test cases are written in a natural language text. Knowing the dependencies between test cases can help testers and test managers to rank test cases for execution in a more efficient way. Test cases can be failed after each other if the testers do not care about the dependencies between them. However, for detecting the dependencies between test cases we need to have more information about the system under test, requirement specifications, testing level, etc. On the other hand, the mentioned information is not available in all testing process, where the test case specification is most of the time the only available information.
In this thesis, we have a plan to evaluate the correlation between the test cases dependencies and their text semantic similarity.
In order to show the feasibility of the proposed approach in this thesis, Bombardier transportation will provide a large set of manual test cases in the integration testing level as an industrial case study. Furthermore, we provide the correct dependencies between test cases which can be utilized as the ground truth.
